If you are unsure about the story of the AB, Google 'AB yiros', etc.
So last night, on a public holiday we didn't want to cook. And I remembered there was a comment on a forum from a reader of this blog who stated "its not an Adelaide food blog without a review of an AB". My last AB was around 3 years ago... so it was about time for another revisit.
I asked my daughter whether she wanted to try, and she said yes. Off we drove to the infamous O'Connell Street in North Adelaide, where the 2 stores that claim to have created the AB exist. Unfortunately, Blue and White was closed, and North Adelaide Burger Bar (Red and White) had a HUGE lineup. I was hoping both would be open so I could actually do a review and compare, but alas.....
Anyway, after a 15 minute wait, the AB was in my hands ready for the drive home.
Freshly deep fried chips, PLENTY of Yiros meats (chicken and lamb) covered with Tzatziki, Tomato sauce, Chili sauce........mmmmm.
To be honest, it wasn't as good as I remembered, but it was still a great meal. Don't get me wrong, if you're young, wanting to get a great cheap meal before a night out, or during a night out, or even a hangover cure, this is it. Just make sure you don't burp, or try to kiss anyone afterwards - the garlic breath is sure to set you up for a night on the couch.
The price has gone up, $12.50 for a minimum order, but enough to feed 2.
