Wasai Japanese Kitchen - Adelaide's best Japanese?

Last Saturday the family headed to Wasai Japanese Kitchen for a round of Japanese food to celebrate Ma’s birthday. Between the six of us we ordered two Seafood Ramen, Tonkatsu with Rice, Tempura Udon, two serves of Tempura and two serves Aburi Salmon. Wasai has always been my “go to” place for Japanese food and once again they did not fail to impress. Unfortunately, I only took photos of a few of the dishes!

Tempura was light and delicate with a serious amount of crunch. It amazes me how the Japanese are capable of deep frying food without leaving even the slightest hint of greasiness. You could literally eat numerous plates of this and not feel ill – plus being vegetables it’s good for you right?

The Udon noodles were cooked to perfection – springy, with a nice amount of bite and soaking in a tasty miso broth. No sign of mushy noodles here! However, one minor complaint is that the miso broth was a tad salty resulting in high levels of after meal thirst.

Finally the piéce de ŕesistance – Aburi Salmon roll! OMG this sushi is the best I have ever eaten. Every mouthful is a moment of bliss. Soft and flavorsome salmon is torched to perfection, and matched with a delicious concoction of Kewpie mayo and sweet soy. If you had not had this before you HAVE to try it – and this is coming from someone who generally doesn’t enjoy eating salmon. It really is that good so please do yourself a favour!

Great Japanese food at incredibly reasonable prices is what you’ll get at Wasai. Match that with their incredibly friendly service and you have a definite winner!

Jess gives Wasai 9/10 chops on The Chopping Board.
