Jerusalem - good food, no service

Jerusalem used to be a hidden gem in Adelaide's 'seedy' Hindley street...that was many years ago, but word has since spread about this Middle Eastern restaurant.  Now everyone knows where to go if you want to get some authentic garlic breath!

Apologies for the poor quality photos, camera phone + very bad lighting = incredibly bad pics.

A word of warning, if you have never been to Jerusalem and you're into fancy looking restaurants with top quality service, fancy decor and an overall hygienic feel, you might be in for a surprise.  You will not get great service, you will not get matching cutlery, you will not be seated on clean furniture, nor will you be looking at an interior that has been changed since the early 1980's... oh, and you will get the occasional bad smell(s).  BUT, the food? Awesome.... a real rustic, genuine hearty meal.

We had a few of us for lunch, so we decided to order the banquet so we could sample everything - $25/head.

Houmos

Tabouli
Falafel
Deep Fried Cauliflower?
Koshari
Sheshkafta
Chicken Kebab
Sheshkebab
Jerusalem Coffee
Every item above was delicious and for $25/head it was a fair amount of food.  Not cheap.  Nothing was amazing, and I'm sure I've had better, but for a good old rustic feel using your hands to eat, I can't think of a better place to visit.  Don't forget, if you spend over $22/head for banquet orders, corkage is free, just don't be prepared to be sipping out of a nice wine glass, more like plastic cups from the 1960's.

To top off the lunch, when we were about to leave and leaving our money on the table with tips, chef/waiter in the kitchen kindly tells us to pick up all the money and hand it over to him personally..... great service - NOT.

Atmosphere: 2/5
Service: 1/5

    1. Have you tried Hello Dolly on Payneham Road? I would rate their falafels better.
