When considering the club sandwich, I like to consider each on its merits, as I believe each location can chop and change from the traditional club sandwich. For me, and the majority of locations, the standard ingredients are turkey, chicken bacon and egg. The turkey in the top later, and the chicken, egg and bacon in the bottom layer. Lettuce and tomato should be in there also for some moisture and vegetable count for the day, and some sort of dressing, mayo or a sweeter jam.

My quest started one day on The Parade at Norwood, when Argo showed great potential with their club sandwich. All the right boxes are ticked for their interpretation. 3 layers of bread, interestingly, a grain based bread in the middle. Top layer has lettuce, tomato, mayo and caramelised onion. Bottom layer has chicken bacon egg and mayo. All mayo is the special Argo mayo, which tastes closer to an aioli than a mayo. Still a nice creamy taste. So no Turkey, which is ok, but I do think that the club should have double meat. The chicken was nicely cooked, not too dry. The egg was slightly underdone, but not runny, which makes eating out a lot easier! Caramelised onions were a nice addition of sweetness.
The Argo Club had good balance overall, it wasn't too bready or overly meaty. The size is also something that I take into account when evaluating the club. If I choose a club, it's because I'm hungry! Double layer sandwiches aren't for the faint hearted. The Argo does a good job of creating a club sized well enough to pick up and eat and filling. We ordered a side of well cooked fries with some nice paprika based seasoning. Argo (Norwood) is also a nice cafe, nice decor, good service and ok coffee. It's pretty busy but they have sufficient staff to meet the demand. They have a large menu which caters for a lot of tastes.
