Bliss Organic Cafe - 7 Compton St, Adelaide.
|I love seeing 'Bliss Inspiration' on every table.|
If there was an eating out handbook supplied to every new vegan in Adelaide, this place would be on the front page. Almost everyone I speak to who asks me about my veganism let's me know about Bliss Organic Cafe like it's their little secret - and I love it.
I visit Bliss almost every week to shop for vegan ingredients to cook with and I normally leave with a delicious vegan treat from the cake cabinet. The best thing about Bliss is that everything is cruelty free, it's like a safe house for vegans. Bliss stocks a huge range of vegan products; custard powder, numerous types of chocolate, books, makeup, pet food, cheese, ice cream, wallets, belts and so much more. There's also free wifi (ask for the passcode) and there's a plethora of awards hanging on the walls from FoodandLifestyle.com.au, The Adelaide Magazine and The Messenger.

But today I was here for breakfast. After running Park Run, I was pretty hungry and had heard rave reviews about Bliss's scrambled tofu. I had to have it. Surprisingly, at 9am, I was one of two people having breakfast but a handful more strolled in as I was eating. I ordered a side of Turkish bread (minus the sunflower spread) and a green smoothie.
My smoothie came out first - it's more of a juice than a smoothie (from memory, it's listed on the menu as a juice) but it has the healthy veggie taste only fresh green juices have. It's well balanced with apple and I detected a bit of citrus in there as well.
Not long after, my scrambled tofu and Turkish bread arrived. I loaded my bread up with the tofu and got stuck in and didn't come up for air until I'd finished. It. Was. Delicious.

The tofu is mixed with chunks of potato, tomato, mushrooms, kale, grated carrot, pumpkin seeds, raisins, turmeric and garnished with parsley. The flavours work well, the texture is amazing and anyone who compares it to scrambled eggs is not doing it justice.
I cleaned my plate, read a few pages of a book I bought while I was there (The Kind Diet - it's the book that tipped me over the edge to become vegan) before going outside to check out the garden (and the toilet). I will definitely be back on a warmer day to sit in the garden - it's a little escape from the city outside.

Ambiance - 4/5: It is exactly what I expect from the name and reputation. Relaxed and comfortable.
Service - 4/5: A little vague early in the morning but super friendly.
Food: 8.5/10: It's definitely made with love.
In total, Tom gives Bliss Organic Cafe 16.5/20 chops on the chopping board.
