Quick Chop! Artisan bakery - Taste on Rundle

TASTE ON RUNDLE - ARTISAN BAKERY - 214 RUNDLE STREET, ADELAIDE

Walking along Rundle Street I (Mirko) notice that there is a little industrial looking hole in the wall eatery which immediately intrigues me - so what else to do but go in and see what is on offer.

Taste on Rundle is an artisan bakery who had its Adelaide roots based at Adelaide University and have now branched out onto Rundle Street.  I speak to the manager who mentions that they have only been at their new location for 3 weeks (at the time of my visit).  From the outside you are greeted with a window of pastries and baguettes which makes your mind wander trying to work out what to eat.

I ask one of the staff what their favourite sweet/pastry is and I am immediately recommended the lemon tart.  Looking at the window display I see that there is only one of these left - that must be a good sign...right?

Latte and lemon tart - $7.50
I am taken to the back of the cafe where there is a funky, enclosed outdoor space.  Lots of light and a nice gas heater - perfect for those cold winter days.  The lemon filling is smooth and silky.  There was a nice level of tartness to the mixture but not so rich or tart that a cream was needed to balance out the flavours.  The pastry is short and slightly sweet and makes for a good casing to the overall dish.

The latte was nice and I believe that they use Toby's Estate coffee beans.  I am told by our resident coffee connoisseur, Nathan that Toby's is big interstate and starting to get some traction here in Adelaide - this is consistent with the bakeries beginnings in Sydney (prior to Adelaide University). I've now got him to add it to his list of 'to visit' for his #Adelaide #coffee #roundup here so, if you like coffee - check it out!

Whilst I did not have many items on the menu I did see that they have a good combination of sweet and savoury items - with plans in the near future to start baking breads onsite.  I will definitely be coming back during my lunch breaks to try what else they have on offer.

Ambiance:  4/5 - I really enjoyed the vibe of the place, 90's beats playing in the background at the time of my visit
Service: 3/5 - Friendly, standard service
Food: 7/10 - Tart was good....can only go by this one dish though

Overall, Mirko gives Taste on Rundle 14/20 chops on the Chopping Board.
