Curious Squire - more ribs please!

Curious Squire - 10 O'Connell St, North Adelaide

One Saturday night, my friend and I headed down O'Connell St in North Adelaide to try out the "not so new" Curious Squire. On arrival the place was bustling with activity with groups of people both standing and seated, which wasn't conducive to a relaxing dining experience with a lot of foot traffic very close to our table.

I ordered a half rack of Memphis Pork Ribs served with Coleslaw and Seeded Mustard Potato Salad. The dish was also served with some extra rib glaze. The rib meat was smokey, tender and easily fell off the bone. Not one to shy away from eating food with gusto, these ribs had me using both hands - eventually covered in smokey BBQ rib sauce (I poured the sauce all over the ribs - no dainty dipping here!). My friend, who exchanged at an American college, said that these ribs were on par with ones he had during his time in the US, and that's a good enough commendation for me. The coleslaw was crisp and had a nice tang to cut through the sweetness of the ribs, albeit the serving size was a tad small. The potato salad was nothing to rave about and the potatoes were a little hard for my liking.

My friend went for the signature "The Squire" burger which consisted of hand smacked 250gm Angus beef patty, bacon, egg, cheddar cheese, lettuce, coleslaw, tomato, onion, apple cider BBQ sauce, English mustard wedged between a burger bun and served with shoestring fries. Although I didn't get a bite of the burger, comments were that it was very tasty. Meanwhile I did manage to sneak a few fries, which were toasty warm, well seasoned and crisp.

Fine dining the Curious Squire is not, with wait staff polite but largely disinterested. However, it is a fun place to eat, would suit well to larger crowds and serves food of solid quality.
