Shake Shack – Fly me to the Shack

Shake Shack - Al Barsha 1 - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

The double shack burger

If you follow our social media accounts, you may have noticed I (Nathan) took a quick flight to Abu Dhabi (via Dubai) recently for work. While this was a long trip (especially for a 20 minute presentation), there was one positive. I got to go to Shake Shack. Ever since trying Shake Shack in NYC a few years back, I have searched the country for something that comes close - tale a look for yourself. I’ve even tried to make the Fake Shack, but it is still not the same.

Shake Shack - Dubai Airport
The Shake Shack in Dubai Airport was where I was reunited with Shake Shack. I never realised until I came back to Australia, that Shake Shack was so damned good. Never mind, I got to have it again!

Reunited with my love of the Shack
Not knowing when I would have this again, I went all out, having a Double ShackBurger, Cheese Fries and the Peter Butter Fluffer Nutter concrete. There was no way I was going to get a single, I made that mistake once before. Double me up, hit me with as much of those juicy patties as you can. I’ve been preparing for this meal for three days now (that’s all the notice I had for the trip!).

And as I remember, the ShackBurger was perfect; the meat was cooked just under medium, juicy, greasy, dripping. A dense, slightly sweet bun, and the unmistakable ShackSauce. The crust on the patty, the char from the grill, all signature Shake Shack tastes were present and almost overwhelming. I’ve waited so long to have the ShackBurger again, I made sure that I savoured every last mouthful. I was in a very empty dining room watching three others finish theirs and move on. Maybe I’m the strange one? Meh, who cares, I may never be here again so I continue to take my time. I’m amazed that it’s exactly how I remember it, that it’s the same taste half way around the world from its origins and it brings me great joy to have returned and had it once more.

Peanut butter concrete
The fries aren’t anything to get excited about, but the concrete is delicious. The Peanut Butter Fluffer Nutter is a Peanut Butter Marshmallow swirl custard blended with banana. It is sweet, with an occasional peanut crunch, and that little bit of banana providing a great texture. It’s exactly what a McFlurry should be, but sadly will never be. A great finish to a meal that was worth the two 12 hour flights.

If you ever get the chance to try Shake Shack, at one of their many locations worldwide, do it. Don’t think, oh it’s just another burger joint, because it isn’t. It’s simply the best burger in the world.

Nathan gives the ShackBurger 20/20 chops on The Chopping Board. Yes, you read right, I give it a perfect score. Only the best in the world gets the 20 chops and this is it.
