InterContinental Adelaide - Its High Tea time!

InterContinental Adelaide - North Terrace, Adelaide

Never having experienced a high tea, it had always been something that was on my list if the opportunity presented itself. When we were invited to try the High Tea at the InterContinental Adelaide, I (Nathan) was eager to put my hand up and see what all the fuss was about. As this was an invitation, all food and drinks were provided for to us free of charge.

Lots of High Teas being enjoyed
It was a chilly Sunday afternoon, and we were eager to head inside to start our High Tea experience. We were greeted politely at the entry to the Atrium lounge area that was almost full of patrons enjoying their High Tea. We were sat down, and offered a glass of bubbly to kick off our experience. There's also a pianist tickling the ivories in the corner...slowly, I am warming to the concept, and the experience is great so far.

The tower of delights
Looking at the tower, it was a lot of food, much more than I had anticipated. Me, being a High Tea novice, wasn't sure if I should be eating lunch or skipping it. Not being a good skipper of meals, I snuck in lunch beforehand - big mistake! There was quite a large selection of treats, including cucumber sandwiches, brioche rolls, salmon wraps, carrot cake, apricot slice, lemon meringue, chocolate brownies, macarons and of course, 3 different flavours of scones with jam and cream!

Lemon meringues and brownies!
There were so many different choices, I'm not sure that you need to hear a description of every single item. My favourites from the tower of food were the brownies, macarons, brioche rolls, lemon meringues and scones.

Blueberry scones with blueberry jam and fresh cream
While I had many favourites, I enjoyed the scones the most. They were soft, fluffy and delightful. I smothered them with all the jam and cream I could and demolished them. Definitely the highlight for me. As I've said, this was my first High Tea experience and I had a good time. I do not have a comparison, but my wife, who was my lucky plus one on the day, commented that it was a little better than ones that she has previously had at the Hilton.

If you've never had High Tea, or you're up for another, the High Tea at the InterContinental is a great experience with a very good selection of food (and teas) and a relaxing atmosphere.
