Downtown HDCB - 99 Hindley Street, Adelaide 5000
I caught up with a good friend of mine a while ago and ended up at Downtown HDCB. As the picture below shows, the signage represents a New York subway sign and the HDCB stands for Hot Dogs and Cold Beer. I (Mirko) was excited!Downtown HDCB is located on Hindley Street with a long and narrow dining space. The interior is plain and a little hipster like reminding me of some places that I have been to whilst in NYC. Upon entering after work on a weekday there are a few people having a meal and luckily we did not have an issue getting a booth. OK - food!

My Snoop Dawg with Fries and Beer ($23) |
Being a bit of a RnB and Hip Hop lover, I went straight for the Snoop Dawg (Beef sausage, wood smoked pulled pork, mac and cheese and house BBQ sauce). Coupled with a side of fries and beer, my meal totalled $23.
The hotdog itself was nice and cooked medium - not something that I have seen previously when cooking a hotdog. The combination of the pulled pork and mac and cheese worked well, however it was a little heavy - and it showed as it was quite difficult to eat with my bare hands as the bun broke away - I would try and consider utilising a sturdier bun that could withstand the onslaught of toppings. The fries were well cooked but nothing special.
Overall, I liked my meal and would go back again and if I was a little hungrier, I would definitely be ordering some appetisers to try! My fellow diners (one being a chef) also both enjoyed their meals and seconded my thoughts of coming back again. But for $23 it is a little on the steep side from a price perspective.
Mirko gives Downtown HDCB 7/10 Chops on The Chopping Board.
