InterContinental Riverside Summer Menu Launch

InterContinental Riverside Summer Menu Launch

The Chopping Board were recently invited to attend the summer menu launch at the Riverside Restaurant at the Adelaide InterContinental Hotel.  All food and beverages were provided on behalf of the InterContinental.

Assorted Sushi by Shiki
To start The Chopping Board and fellow Adelaide Food Bloggers Dbites, McFuzzlebutt’s Manchen, Foodie Ling and Adelaide Foodies were treated to a selection of delicious sushi and sashimi from the InterContinental’s Japanese Restaurant Shiki.  We were also offered the InterContinental’s signature espresso martini which I had to regretfully decline, to ensure I would be able to get a little sleep later on!  Instead I decided to enjoy a lovely crisp 2012 Wolf Blass Gold Label Sauvignon Blanc throughout the evening.

We were then very lucky to be taken on a tour of the hotel’s impressive Presidential Suite on the top floor; the very room the Rolling Stones occupied recently.   The hotel is currently running a special accommodation and dining package for $249 per night which includes a room, dinner for two at the Riverside Restaurant, valet parking and buffet breakfast the following morning.  You may view this Indulgent Package on YouTube.  Unfortunately it does not include overnight accommodation in the Presidential Suite ;)

Prawn and Squid Salad
For entrĂ©e I chose the prawn and squid salad.  The InterContinental has a local SA food focus and the Spencer Gulf prawns did not disappoint with their delicious juicy freshness.  The poached squid in coconut presented in thin spirals were soft and tender with a subtle coconut flavour.  The pomelo sprinkled throughout the dish brought refreshing bursts, the handmade tapioca and prawn crackers added a much needed crunch and a finish of dill lifted the coconut richness.

Hutton Vale Farm Lamb Shoulder by Chef Russ Lusted
For main course I selected the Hutton Vale Farm Lamb Shoulder.  This was a dish designed by Chef Ross Lusted, a Culinary Ambassador who has formed a partnership with the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to provide a number of bespoke recipes for use by the IHG.  Tony Hart, the Executive Chef at the InterContinental Adelaide delivered the lamb shoulder exquisitely.  As soon as I placed my fork into the lamb it pulled away so softly and delicately I could not wait for it to melt in my mouth.  This perfectly cooked lamb with delightful smoky peppery notes was made all the more interesting with the unexpected zing from the lemon puree dotted suitably on top.  The menu indicated an accompaniment of slow roasted vegetables but I was presented with what I can only describe as blanched vegetables which provided some taste bud confusion.

Pear Frangipane
Dessert which is always my highlight of the night did not disappoint!  I ordered the Pear Frangipane tart which was served with house made vanilla bean ice cream atop of crushed pistachio nuts and a vanilla and wattle seed macaron from the Mac Factory (located on Hutt Street).  The ice cream was deliciously creamy with great crunch from the pistachio nuts.  The tart comprised of a lovely crunchy nutty base scattered with large pieces of organic walnuts, a soft centre and perfectly baked spiced pear on top.  I have always been a big fan of the Mac Factory’s macarons and this flavour made especially for the InterContinental Hotel brought great joy to my night!

To complete the evening, we were treated to a selection of enjoyable truffles provided by Hughsli (a previous apprentice chef at the InterContinental) who focuses on using fresh, local, organic produce and have a regular stall at the Adelaide Farmer’s Market.

Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience with delightful local food, diligent service and spectacular views.  I would recommend the Riverside Restaurant at the InterContinental Adelaide as a dining option this summer, while taking in some of the great entertainment facilities in the surrounding area.
