Quick Chop! World Pasta Day @ Auge Ristorante

Auge Ristorante - 22 Grote Street, Adelaide SA 5000

To celebrate World Pasta Day on 25 October 2014, I (Mirko) decided to pay Auge Ristorante a visit. Auge Ristorante, located at the end of Grote Street near Victoria Square has been in operation since approximately 2000 and is seen as one of the more 'fancier' Italian Restaurants in Adelaide.

It has been a venue that I have wanted to dine at for quite some time but just never had the chance to do so - and what better time than to do it then on World Pasta Day! I must admit, that this is the first time that I have heard of such a day, but nevertheless, I will always look for an opportunity to eat out!

After ordering a few entrees between the four of us, I opt for the main serving of Pappardelle alla norciana (slow braised pork shoulder, olives, tomato, oregano and reggiano).

I am a fan of pappardelle (large, broad flat pasta noodles) so when I see this on the menu I try and go for this pasta type. The pasta was cooked al-dente and the pork shoulder was so soft, tender, flavoursome and just melted in my mouth. The sauce and olives also provided just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. Coupled with a nice glass of wine and World Pasta Day was a success!

Pappardelle alla norciana - Main $32
Whilst I was very pleased (and full) with my dish, I sometimes question whether $32 is considered to be too expensive for a pasta dish? Don't get me wrong, I don't have an issue paying for quality (which this was) but I do sometimes find it hard to justify such a price for what is essentially pasta and sauce. Maybe it was the pork shoulder that added to this price...who knows.

Ambiance: 3/5 - Was a little quiet when we arrived, but started to ramp up through the night
Service: 4/5 - Very attentive, informative service
Food: 7.5/10 - A very nice dish, but I question the price...

In total, Mirko gives Auge Ristorante 14.5/20 chops on The Chopping Board.
