Waterloo Station Hotel - Good pub fare

Waterloo Station Hotel - 138 Waterloo Corner Rd, Paralowie

When we are looking for different places to have a casual meal at, we quite often search through our entertainment books for a location. One particular search for a birthday lunch landed us at the Waterloo Station Hotel, a relatively recently renovated pub at Paralowie. Bonus was they have a kids play area.

Rib Fillet, Onion Ring topping, Fries, Coleslaw and Caesar Salad, with Peppercorn gravy - $31.95

The establishment still has a new feel, with a large open dining room that has plenty of space and looks out onto the play ground, There is the normal pokies room, but it's in the back corner and doesn't intrude on the dining room at all. Their theme is 'Roadhouse Grill', and the menu reflects that. The menu is quite large, and can be a little confusing, but there are more than enough options for everyone. The kids are also well looked after with plenty of options.

Feeling like a steak, I chose the 300g rib fillet. I topped it with onion rings, and chose it to be served with coleslaw and caesar salad and straight cut chips. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it was delivered as ordered. The meat was tender, with good char marks and some nice smokey flavours from the grill. The sides were surprisingly good, and didnt taste like they were a week old like some coleslaws I've had recently. The meal is massive, there is a lot of food on the plate for $31.95, and I would skip the topping next time, the onion rings were pretty average. Feedback from other diners around the table was positive, and the kids loved their meals also.

If you are out the north of Adelaide, and looking for a decent sized meal with somewhere for the kids to have a play, then the Waterloo Station Hotel is a pretty good option. If you have the Entertainment Card, then the discount makes it very good value.

In total OTCB gives Waterloo Station Hotel 13/20 chops on The Chopping Board.

Ambiance: 3/5 - As expected for a large dining room at a pub, but not too noisy.
Service: 3/5 - Prompt and polite.
Food: 7/10 - Positive comments all round, but nothing too fancy. A little pricey without discount vouchers.

  1. It's good that you had a pleasant dining experience at Waterloo Station Hotel. I think a play area for kids is the most unique thing about the pub. In fact, it seems to be easy on the pocket.
