Juice Bureau - 157 The Parade Norwood SA 5067
Juice Bureau is a new venture by the Argo's on the Parade (our Argo review
here) team which focuses on supplying cold pressed juices. Cold pressed juicing is a method of 'pressing' fresh fruit and vegetables so the maximum amount of vitamins, minerals and enzymes are extracted from the pulp and fibre, leaving a raw and fresh juice.

This small shop with a gorgeous colourful ceiling of flowers provides a
variety of ready to go cold pressed juices, almond milks and a selection
of takeaway wraps and salads. Currently there are 15 juices to choose
from in the 'Everyday Range', 4 juices in the 'Organic Range', 3 juice
shots in the 'Shot Range' and 6 almond milks in their 'Almond Milk

Ceiling of Flowers |
Juice Bureau use fresh and seasonal local produce for their cold pressed juices which are made on site at Argo on the Parade just a few doors down the road. The juices are made and delivered to Juice Bureau on the same day to ensure complete freshness. Cold pressed juices should last for up to 3 days and almond milks for up to 5 days but must always be kept refrigerated.

Cold Pressed Juices, Almond Milks, Salads & Wraps |
On this occasion I was provided with many tastings of a variety of the juices on offer including Heartbeet (apple, carrot, beetroot, lemon and ginger), Digest (pineapple, pear, yellow capsicum, lemon and grapefruit) and Euphoria (orange, pineapple, passionfruit and acai). Every single one I tasted was delicious and bursting with flavour. I also tasted the 'Vanilla Almond Milk' containing filtered water, almonds, dates and organic vanilla which I thoroughly enjoyed especially with the hint of sweetness from the dates and vanilla.
From the tastings, I purchased one of my favourite cold pressed juices named 'Balance' $8.50, which consisted of apple, carrot, strawberry, lime, ginger and lucuma. Lacuma is a fruit native to South America which is imported in organic powder form and contains a great source of B vitamins. It had wonderful apple and strawberry aromas and tasted fresh and crisp with the inclusion of lime and ginger elements.
Juice Bureau also offer a one day juice cleanse. This consists of eliminating solid food and instead, drinking 6 juices (at regular intervals), 1 to 3 litres of water and herbal tea over the course of one day. Juice Bureau believe this is the simplest and easiest way to obtain all your raw fruit and vegetables in order to help hydrate, cleanse and nourish your body. They also provide fact cards to inform how particular ingredients in the juices can assist with the health of your body. The one day cleanse of 6 bottles (475ml each) costs $50.

The one day juice cleanse juices $50 |
I undertook
the one day juice cleanse on a Monday hoping to start the week off in a purified
vitamin rich way. The nutritionist at
Juice Bureau selects 3 out of the 6 juices for you to consume during the one
day cleanse. Two are green juices that the
nutritionist recommends you start the day with to kick start the detoxification
process. Firstly the ‘Detoxifier’ which
consists of cucumber, celery, spinach, kale, parsley, lemon, spirulina, barley
grass and chorella, which I found to have quite an earthy taste but still
pleasant enough to drink. This is
followed by the ‘Cleanse’ two hours later, which includes cucumber, celery,
kale, spinach, lime and mint. I was
hoping the mint would be predominant but instead I could taste the cucumber and
spinach more so. As I am a regular green
smoothie drinker I found this easy to drink.

The Immune and Restore cold pressed juices |
To further promote
the detox process it is recommended that you select as many green juices as
possible. The third juice for the day,
which is one of the three green juices I select, is the ‘Immune’ which contains
cucumber, celery, apple, spinach, parsley, lime and oregano. By this time of the day I appreciated the
sweet apple flavour of this juice. At
3:30pm I enjoy a reprieve from the green juices and select the ‘Restore’ which
is made up of celery, carrot, pineapple, turmeric and lime. This was a lovely
sweet treat that was welcomed during what is usually my mid-afternoon
slump! At 6pm I eagerly crack open the
Green Kiwi juice, another of my green selections, which contains kiwi fruit, pear,
celery, spinach and cucumber. By this
stage of the day I'm
feeling quite tired and this green juice is tasting like
all the others!
Finally at
8pm I enjoy the Banana Cinnamon Almond Milk which is the last juice for the day
that the nutritionist selects for you, as the oils and protein are designed to help
with sleep. This juice which contains
filtered water, almonds, banana, dates, cinnamon and organic vanilla was
absolutely delicious, creamy, silky and with perfect sweetness.
In between
the 6 juices, I drank almost 3 litres of water and lots of caffeine free herbal
tea. The nutritionist also recommends
you undertake a cleansing period of up to 3 days before partaking in the juice
cleanse which involves removing things that may hinder the detox process such
as caffeine, alcohol, red meat and refined sugar to ensure your body gets the
most out of the juice cleanse. The nutritionist provides this detailed
information to you in an email before starting which will help you decide if
this is the cleanse for you.
Overall I
enjoyed the one day cleanse. My biggest
fear was being hungry and I never was! Surprisingly
the liquid only cleanse was quite filling. Around 5pm I was quite sleepy and needed a
small 20 minute nap. I also had a couple
of irritable mood moments which those around me weren't shy at pointing out but
pushing through this found me feeling fresh, light on my feet and revived when
I woke up the next morning! Now to
determine how to keep this healthy detoxed body on track going forwards...
definitely a challenge in the lifestyle of an Adelaide foodie! Oh well, until the next detox!
I've been taking Green energy drinks on and off for about 3 years, and in my life the improvements on how I feel and on my general health have been evident. It basically eliminated my sinus allergies. Now I rarely catch the flu or other illnesses.
