Raw + Real Cold-Pressed Juicery & Kitchen - Need a Healthy Glow?!

Raw + Real Cold-Pressed Juicery and Kitchen - 20 James Place, Adelaide SA 5000

When OTCB was invited to enjoy a complimentary juice at the opening of Raw + Real Cold-Pressed Juicery and Kitchen, I (Amanda) the juice groupie jumped at the chance!  I felt my juice options at the western end of Rundle Mall were limited so I was hoping for a winner.  Raw + Real is located in James Place amongst many other popular lunch time venues.  On arrival the fit-out is clean, new and modern.

Raw + Real Loyalty Card

I am presented with a loyalty card which entitles you to your 6th juice free.  The menu is divided into 'Juices' and 'Blends'.  Juices are the cold-pressed variety and the blends are the smoothies.  I decide to try something from the blend section today and select one containing berries, banana, lavender and almond milk.  The last time I enjoyed lavender in a drink I was at a Lavender Farm in Victoria so I was very excited.  The juice was delicious.  Sweet fruity flavours from the berries and banana, velvety texture from the almond milk and a calming sensation from the lavender!

Grilled Vege Ciabatta $9.20 (front), Regular Cold-Pressed Juice $6.90 (back)
As I enjoyed my first smoothie so much, I returned to Raw + Real a second time a week later, this time to try some food also.  On this visit I order a juice from the blend menu consisting of carrot, ginger, orange, fennel and chia seeds and a grilled olive and rosemary ciabatta with grilled peppers, olives, grated zucchini, feta and rocket.  This juice is more on the savoury side with only a subtle sweetness from the carrot.  I think I would have enjoyed this juice more if it was ice cold but today I find the juice a little warm.  The sandwich is huge and tackling this was a challenge but once I had one bite I found a way because it was so tasty.  So many delicious flavours and great acidity from the marinated peppers and olives and creamy bite from the feta.  At $9.20 this is great value for the size, quality and abundance of filling.

Regular Cold-Pressed Juice $6.90
As Raw + Real is conveniently located near to my work, I stop by for a third visit one lunch break.  This time I select a regular sized kale, spinach, lemon, broccoli, apple, cucumber juice $6.90.  This is very similar to the green smoothie I make every morning, so I love this fruit and vegetable combination.  Lots of healthy vegetables to boost my vitamin intake and enough sweetness from the apple to make the vegetables enjoyable!

Beef Wholegrain Roll $9.90
Roll cut in half

Today I can't go past the toasted wholegrain roll with Angus four hour slow cooked beef, spicy mayo, brie and rocket for $9.90.  This one I request to be cut in half to help me eat it easier but it's always a challenge when there is so much filling within thick solid bread - both attributes that I love in a substantial roll with a great price to match.  The juicy well-seasoned slow cooked beef covered in the melted brie cheese is divine.  The spicy mayo gives the roll a subtle kick and the bread roll is so delicious with little crunchy grains throughout the hearty sourdough type bread.  For someone who is trying to cut down on their meat intake this roll is not making my life easy!

Raw + Real source all their breads from the Village Baker (another favourite of mine), the fruit and vegetables are sourced locally and delivered daily and the meats are provided by Feast Fine Foods and slow cooked on site at Raw + Real.  Service has been quick and friendly each time and they even have some communal tables inside and outside of this little juice and sandwich bar.  I am definitely happy that they have set up residence on James Place and look forward to enjoying more healthy juices and lunches either basking in the sun on the outside communal tables or with a quick takeaway before heading back to work.

Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly: Yes, lots of juice and salad options

Ambiance: 4/5 - Small, modern and lots of fresh fruits & vegetables adorning the counter
Service: 4/5 - Friendly and fast
Food: 8.5/10 - Simple and healthy.  I just wish the cold-pressed juices were a little colder.
