Quick Chop! - Al Mina Mediterranean Central

Al Mina Mediterranean Central - Shop 26, Adelaide Central Market, Adelaide

One thing that has been happening a bit lately, is the pop up of cool little middle eastern eateries within the markets. Le Souk is one we've recently visited, but today I (Nathan) am going to be talking about Al Mina Mediterranean Central.

Al Mina first opened up a dessert shop on Main North Road, between Regency and Grand Junction. I've never been there myself, but it always looks popular. When I heard that they were serving more savoury food in the markets, I had to forgo a banh mi lunch and give it a go.

Pollo Zaccacia- $9.90

I was greeted by friendly staff, who were quick to recommend the Zaccacia. Each flat bread is baked to order I am told, and when I heard that, I am super keen to try. I grabbed Pollo Zaccacia. As promised, it is served on fresh baked bread, it has a zaatar base with breast chicken, rocket, roast capsicum, Lebanese cucumber, tomato, Dijon and peri peri sauce (the peri peri is recommended as an addition, maybe I look like a guy who likes chilli?)

The bread is delicious. Warm, slightly chewy, slightly dense. The zaatar has that unmistakable middle eastern taste, with the marjoram and thyme coming through strongly. The rocket, tomato, capsicum and cucumber add some crunch and freshness, and the peri peri / dijon combination balances well. The chicken is slightly over run by all the other ingredients, which may be fixed if there was a little more chicken throughout.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it for lunch, with the fresh baked bread a definite winner. The Zaccacia at $9.90 is another great option for a lunch in the Adelaide Central Markets. I'm really keen to try their wraps, pide, maneesh and platters.
