Sunfresh Salads

Sunfresh Salads - Down to Earth Warm Salads

Three 'Down to Earth warm salad pots' were provided to OTCB on behalf of Sunfresh Salads.  Sunfresh is an Australian owned family business that have created these new salad pots to offer a warm, quick and healthy lunch, dinner or snack option.

Roasted Vegetables with Mediterranean flavoured buckwheat, sweet cherry tomato and feta - this was my favourite warm salad of the three. I (Amanda) eat a lot of buckwheat and find it's a great gluten free source of protein which is nice and filling. I loved the sweet flavours of the cherry tomatoes and the creamy feta mixed with the pumpkin, eggplant, red capsicum and black eye beans. The pumpkin seeds added a great crunch and the Mediterranean dressing produced a fresh tangy flavour.

The Quinoa Chicken with roasted garden vegetables, kale and a light balsamic drizzle was also an enjoyable salad. I loved the large pieces of potato and spiced cauliflower mixed with the quinoa, tender chicken, red capsicum, red onion, carrot and kale. I enjoyed the flavours from the honey balsamic dressing but if I was trying to be super healthy it would be a dressing I would avoid due to the sugar content.

Pulled Beef with spiced pearl couscous, kale, sweet potato, carrot and chickpea was my least favourite warm salad of the three varieties. The sweet potato and carrot were cooked well but I thought it was lacking in overall flavour.  I think if there was a kick of chilli incorporated then it would help give the salad a bit more excitement.

The serving size of the salads is 320g and I'm sure for most people this would be a sufficient size for lunch but for me it was just a little under. That's what happens when you are a food blogger that has stretched her stomach to another level!

Overall I think the Down to Earth warm salad range is a great idea for the time poor leading a busy and exciting life as it only takes 2.5 minutes in the microwave to warm up. The salads contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and uses Australian grown vegetables and meats. They are 95% fat free, have a 4 star health rating and are available in Foodland, IGA and Woolworths. They are definitely handy to have in the fridge next time you want a quick and warm but healthy pre-made meal.
