Houda’s Kitchen - Opening Night

Houda's Kitchen - 218-220 Port Road, Hindmarsh SA 5007

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were kindly invited to Houda's Kitchen for the grand opening.  All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Houda's Kitchen.

The setting
Welcome to the newest addition to the Hindmarsh block, Houda’s Kitchen! We at OTCB were made welcome at the official launch of Houda’s Kitchen, where we were treated to a Lebanese feast and fare including music, performances and, of course, delicious Mediterranean and Lebanese food.

Manoush
All guests were greeted at the door individually and provided with ample drinks and manoush, a traditional Lebanese warm flatbread seasoned with oregano, sesame seed and olive oil. The newly renovated premises features extensive indoor and outdoor seating, with a dedicated bar for each area. A multitude of pendant lights adorn both areas, with fresh flowers and soft candlelight providing the final touches on the décor. A stunning performance by Allebasi music provided the first of the ‘wow’ moments for the evening. The traditional wood oven is a focal feature of the indoor area and provides the spectacle of watching pizza chefs as they conjure up your delicious meals before your eyes. We sampled a few slices of the margarita with fresh tomato and basil leaves, a classic combination.

Pizzas!
Following the heartfelt speeches welcoming the guests to the restaurant, a buffet dinner was served, and we were greeted by an absolutely overflowing buffet table. We feasted on everything from creamy hummus and baba ghanoush, warm pita and rice, fresh and perfectly seasoned salads, tabouleh, makanek, traditional lamb sausages, fatayer and sambousek, savoury Lebanese pastries, and of course traditional chicken skewers. Our personal favourite was the amazing jawaneh, caramelised chicken wings in lemon, garlic and coriander. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful, and were more than happy to provide guidance and fill the plates of those less familiar with Lebanese food and flavours.

After dining, we were treated to enchanting traditional belly and group dancing performances with live musicians, adding to the already abundant atmosphere. The overall feeling of warmth and passion generated on this night left us not only satisfied, but feeling as though we had been invited to be part of a big and happy family event.

An obvious culmination of a family’s passion for food, we would recommend getting aboard the Lebanese cultural train at Houda’s Kitchen.
