Quick Chop! Jamface

Jamface - Stall 29, Adelaide Central Markets, SA 5000

I (Amanda) am a massive Poh fan especially after having the opportunity to lunch with her at the Papparich opening where she carefully selected our lunch for the day.  She was so happy, knowledgeable and friendly it's easy to understand why she radiates on television.  I had also been wanting to visit her other stall located at the Adelaide Farmer's Market but Sunday mornings aren't my strong suit so when she recently opened a stall at the Adelaide Central Markets I jumped at the chance to visit Jamface for lunch during a work break.

Having seen a photo of a very good looking pastrami sandwich that a fellow blogger Good Food Thyme posted from Jamface, I knew this was the sandwich I would order!  Jamface is located amongst the fruit and vegetable produce stalls and had more seating than I expected.  It's decorated cute, rustic and definitely with love with handmade and recycled adornments and fits in perfectly in the market scene.  At the counter we order the pastrami sandwich, toasted, a coffee and a salted caramel chocolate tart.

Pastrami Sandwich $12
We take a seat on a high stool bar bench and when the pastrami sandwich arrives it appears to look half the size as the one I had previously seen a photo of.  The pickle addict that I am also notices that there is only 1 pickle atop of this sandwich compared to the photo that had 2!  Oh my, not a good start for this pickle freak!  None the less I tell myself to move on and get stuck into the sandwich.  The filling consists of pastrami, Swiss cheese, slaw and American mustard.  Overall great flavours, the cheese melted well and the slaw still had a nice crunch and the mustard so tangy and delicious!  If there was one thing that let the sandwich down, it would be the very thin layer of pastrami that was lost in the sandwich.  I did mention this to one of the servers and they were very apologetic as the sandwich is supposed to be similar to a New York version with the inclusion of multiple pastrami layers.  He was unaware as to what happened today with the pastrami layering so looks like I will just have to return another time to give it another go!

Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart
The coffee (short machiatto) and salted caramel chocolate tart were a great little pairing. Using a local roaster, Goat Candy, the coffee has a nice sweetness that worked well with the salty tart. The tarts base was crumbly and sweet, the filling super salty and punchy. With a few chopped peanuts on top it finished off the meal on a (sugar) high.

Jamface is definitely a welcomed addition to the central markets and we look forward to returning again soon to give the pastrami sandwich another go and to try a few other offerings that were looking tasty through those glass cabinets.  We wish Poh all the best with this new venture.
