Lure Fishbar SoHo - 142 Mercer Street, New York City, 10012
New York Restaurant Week graced us with its presence in February 2016, but given work commitments, I (Mirko) was unable to attend as many restaurants as I had hoped (bad blogger!). Fortunately, I was able to go to
Lure Fishbar in SoHo. Rather than bore you with the specifics of Restaurant Week, all I will say is that there was a three course menu where you could choose your appetiser, entree and dessert from a selection of items.

Crispy Shrimp Tempura |
For an appetiser I chose the Shrimp Tempura which was coupled with a spicy mayonnaise, sesame seeds and chives. The tempura was light and airy and not at all oily - the good sign of a tempura batter, with the shrimp inside also cooked well. I would have preferred a little more kick to the mayonnaise as it had some heat, but not the spice that I was expecting.

Lobster Fra Diavolo |
The pasta dish was a squid ink tagliatelle with shrimp, calamari, lobster and tomato. One of the issues that I typically have with a pasta dish like this is that the different seafood elements can be difficult to cook from a timing perspective. This can lead to some elements being under or overcooked. I was very pleased to say that this was not the case. The shrimp, calamari and lobster were all cooked well and the tagliatelle itself was al-dente. Overall good flavours, but again, when I see Diavolo in the name I am expecting a little more heat.

Lingonberry Vanilla Pannacotta |
To finish off the night, I opted for a Pannacotta which is one of my favourite desserts. This pannacotta was coupled with a a Lingonberry coulis. The pannacotta was presented slightly different (in a bowl as opposed to out of it) but luckily retained all the elements a good pannacotta should have. The mixture was smooth and creamy with a nice vanilla flavour which went well with the tart Lingonberry coulis.
Overall, my dining experience (and those that I attended with) was positive. Would I return to Lure? Yes, but being in New York there are so many other places to try that I would opt for one of those first.
