Nana's Kitchen Table - This is One Trendy Nana!

Nana's Kitchen Table - 97 Belair Road, Torrens Park SA 5062

Nana's Kitchen Table (NKT) had been on my list to try for quite some time, so I (Amanda) finally made the visit one Saturday afternoon for lunch with my mum. NKT is situated in a gorgeous old historic building and focuses on the use of seasonal and local produce to create dishes just like Nana makes with that special home made touch.

Lunch is Served!
NKT is a fairly small establishment with the tables in a L-shape around a large counter which also houses the display of home made cakes and pastries. Emma, the owner and chef, previously worked as a pastry chef at Flinders Street Project, another of our favourite places to visit (review here), so this is pleasing news to me indeed!

Mushroom Ragout
We are seated, our orders taken and we sit back to admire this cute and quaint cafe. We can see a little into the semi open kitchen and smell the effects of our lunch being prepared. Soon after, my mushroom ragout with whipped feta, nuts, seeds and fresh herb salad on top of a large piece of toast is placed in front of me. This dish was all kinds of delicious with the nicely cooked mushrooms still retaining good texture and moisture, the light but creamy whipped feta, the crunch from the scattered nuts and seeds and the flavoursome mixture of fresh herbs including parsley and dill. The sauce from the ragout did soak into the toast a lot making the middle quite soggy but in effect the bread was full of flavour!

Poached Eggs with Pumpkin
My mum ordered the Clare Valley poached eggs with roasted butternut pumpkin, cherry tomatoes, Danish feta, grilled kale, pumpkin seeds and rye toast. She loved this dish especially for it's simplicity, healthiness and great overall taste. I tried a little of the pumpkin and thought it was roasted well with some nice char on the outer.

All in all, we had a lovely lunch at NKT, so much so that I will return to try further dishes from their ever changing seasonal menu. I especially want to arrive a little earlier next time to ensure I don't miss out on any of the home made cakes or pastries that disappeared before we had finished our lunch!  That's a true sign that something is good and I want in!

Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly:Lots of great choices.
Child Friendly: The menu may be a little too trendy but there is sourdough toast available and I'm sure they would be happy to prepare something simple for the kids.

Ambiance: 4.5/5 - Homely, comfortable and easy to have a conversation.
Service: 4/5 - Friendly and prompt.
Food: 8.5/10 - Food done well with lots of home made touches.

In total OTCB gives Nana's Kitchen Table 17/20 chops on The Chopping Board.
