Two Hands - 164 Mott Street, New York, NY, 10013
Being an Aussie, I (Mirko) love brunch. And not the boozy kind (ok....I don't mind that sometimes). So when I was told by fellow OTCB'er Cam (who spent about a year in the Big Apple) before me that there was an Aussie spot called Two Hands, I had to try it.
As soon as I walked in I was welcomed with that laid back Aussie accent which instantly took me home. The decor also reminded me of Australia (no, not Boomerangs and Koalas), but that laid back vibe reminiscent of spots that you would see in Adelaide or Melbourne.
Smashed Avocado with Poached Egg and a side of Bacon |
After perusing the menu, I go straight to a favourite of mine - Smashed Avo (with a side of Bacon). This dish was loaded with creamy avocado topped with lemon and chilli flakes. The combination of the tangy lemon and the heat of the chilli helped balance out the creamy avocado. This was atop a thick piece of bread which held its own under all of that avocado... there is nothing worse than soggy bread! As a side, I also ordered some bacon, and if there is one thing that American's do well, it's bacon! The bacon was crispy and salty and all things that bacon should be. This style of bacon needs to be on more Aussie menus.
