Jack's Wife Freda - 50 Carmine Street, NYC, 10014
Being an Aussie, I love brunch so am always up for trying something new. For me (Mirko), this came in the form of Jack's Wife Freda (JWF) located in the West Village.
On today's menu were the Green Shakshuka, the Croque Monsieur, Duck Bacon and Haloumi.
Our brunch for the day |
The green shakshuka was served with two nice thick pieces of bread which were used to soak up all the sauce in that dish. I typically associate shakshuka with a red sauce, so having the green was something new. Overall, a delicious dish.
In addition to our main dishes, we also ordered an additional serve of the duck bacon, as well as haloumi served with grapes. My friend and I are big fans of haloumi, and whenever we are eating out back at home (Adelaide) we get haloumi where possible. The haloumi here was not at all chewy and had a nice salty flavour, however being served with grapes was a strange taste combination that I could have done without.
Overall, I had a great experience at JWF. The location is great, the room was filled with chatter and laughter, the service was good and the food delicious.
