NYC Quick Chop! Restaurant Week at Delmonico's

NYC Restaurant Week is among us, running from July 25 to August 19 with 3 course lunch ($28) and dinner ($42) specials. 

Working on Wall Street, I (Mirko) went to lunch with a few work friends to Delmonico's Restaurant. After being seated and perusing the Restaurant Week lunch special (appetiser, entree and dessert - $28), I opted for the following three dishes.

Lobster Carbonara
First on the menu was the Lobster Carbonara. The pasta was cooked al-dente and there was a decent amount of lobster present, however the sauce didn't have any kick and unfortunately I found a small lobster shell in my dish. I mentioned this to a few of my friends who had the same dish and they also had some shell present. 

Roasted Filet Mignon
Second on the menu was the Roasted Filet Mignon. Given that it was roasted, we didn't have a preference in the way the meat was cooked (it came out medium), however I was fine with this. This meat was tender and cooked well. The sauce nicely complimented the meat without overpowering it.

New York Cheesecake
Third and final on the menu, was the New York Cheesecake. This, unfortunately, was a disappointing way to end the meal. When I think of a cheesecake I do not expect it to be overly sweet, the cheesecake mixture should be creamy and the biscuit base to have a little bit of hold. This cheesecake did not have any of these elements. In my opinion it was too sweet, the mixture was too soft bordering on a mousse and the biscuit base was soft and almost non-existent. 

Overall, my experience at Delmonico's was lack lustre. Would I go back again based on this experience.... no.... but I do encourage people to take advantage of Restaurant Week specials as this allows you to try a number of different restaurants (and dishes) at a fraction of the cost.
