Aussie Farmers Direct - FreshBox

Aussie Farmers FreshBox -

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was provided with a 'WW Freshbox' thanks to Aussie Farmers Direct and Weight Watchers (WW). The WW Freshbox is a box of produce and recipes designed by Weight Watcher's nutrition experts and delivered by Aussie Farmers Direct. The aim of the WW Freshbox is to provide you with the best Australian produce and well balanced, nutritious recipes to make home cooking easy and healthy.

We were provided a vegetarian Freshbox for 3 meals for 2 people (valued at $64). The box arrived very early one Tuesday morning before I (Amanda) left for work and the box was filled to the brim with fresh produce, dairy products, wraps and pasta, all kept cool with ice bags throughout. An esky is provided with your first box to use for future deliveries - simply place outside your front door and Aussie Farmers Direct will fill with your delivery goods. A helpful tip card with a guide on how to keep your produce fresh is also provided, along with a perfect proteins serving size chart.

Ingredients provided in WW Freshbox for Vegetarian Pasta
The first meal I cooked was the 'Pasta with Broccolini, Spinach, Mushrooms and Ricotta'. All ingredients were provided for this dish apart from two pantry items, which were olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The estimated time to serve this dish was 1 hour, which was quite accurate, and there were enough ingredients to prepare this dish for 4 serves rather than the 2 serves specified, which I thought was generous.

Pasta with Broccolini, Spinach, Mushrooms & Ricotta
Overall this dish was nice and filling but my least favourite of the meals, as it lacked flavour in my personal opinion. I loved the nutritious inclusion of the broccolini, mushrooms, baby spinach and ricotta but I think to make it a tastier dish it needed either a tomato based sauce or more ricotta, more olive oil, a good dose of salt and pepper, a squeeze of lemon, a sprinkle of chilli and it would have really benefited from the leeks being cooked in butter... but yes then it wouldn't have been the Weight Watcher's dish that it was designed as. The tip on the recipe card is to use wholemeal pasta instead of the white pasta provided. I would have preferred wholemeal pasta and think it would have been great to have this option at the time of ordering. I also would have preferred to receive fresh garlic rather than the pureed garlic in a tube.

Ingredients provided in WW Freshbox for Eggplant Rolls
The next dish I cooked was the 'Eggplant Rolls with Tomato Salsa'. All ingredients were provided for this dish apart from two pantry items, which were fresh parmesan cheese and olive oil. The estimated time to serve this dish was 1 hour and 20 minutes but I was able to whip this one up in just under an hour. The eggplant provided was what I would consider small and to serve this meal for 2 people was a real stretch. It was a great entree size but definitely didn't fill me up for dinner time.

Eggplant Rolls with Tomato Salsa
Overall it was a tasty dish. I liked the charred eggplant and creamy ricotta filling had a good flavour from the fresh basil and shallot combination. The tomato salsa was also a great pairing to bring a freshness to the eggplant rolls. I'm not sure if it's a Weight Watchers thing but none of the recipe cards had salt or pepper mentioned but to me all the dishes needed this seasoning, which I added as required.

Ingredients provided in WW Freshbox for Pizzas
The lucky last dish was the 'Zucchini and Goat's Cheese Pizza'. All ingredients were provided for this dish apart from two pantry items, which were the tomato paste and dried oregano. I don't keep tomato paste in my pantry so that was the one ingredient I had to go out to the shops to purchase. The estimated time to serve this dish was 50 minutes and this was accurate. The serving size for this dish was one wrap pizza per person, for me this was not enough and I had the 2 serves to myself! Whoops, I will definitely never qualify to be the next Weight Watchers ambassador at this rate!

Zucchini & Goat's Cheese Pizza
This dish was my favourite of the three in this Freshbox. Not one to give up a nice yeasty pizza base, I actually enjoyed the thin crunchy wholemeal wrap base. So simple to put together, this recipe has been added to my recipe collection which I will cook again. The topping of roasted sweet potato, zucchini and goat's cheese was so flavourful, it was no wonder I couldn't stop at just one! I also enjoyed the addition of the fresh rocket atop the pizza on serving, giving the pizza another interesting element to enjoy.

I think the Aussie Farmers Direct WW FreshBox has some great advantages in that it reduces meal planning time and alleviates grocery shopping as the majority of your ingredients is delivered to your doorstep. The recipes are simple to follow and the dishes didn't take any longer than 1 hour and 20 minutes to prepare and serve. It supports local farmers and guides you to eat healthy portion controlled meals, encouraging reduced amounts of sugar and saturated fats. I think it's a great idea for the time poor, who are wanting to follow a strict, healthy and well balanced lifestyle.
