Quick Chop! Breakfast at Commissary

Commissary - 160 Fullarton Road, Rose Park SA 5067

A Saturday with no plans... means trying somewhere new for lunch!  I (Amanda) decided before a spot of shopping at my favourite Burnside Village, that I would finally try the recently opened Commissary.

Brunch Time!
The Fullarton Road location has seen many cafes come and go... why, I'm not so sure as it is close to the city and has lovely views across the old Victoria Park race course. The interior is simple and modern, we take a seat by the window and notice how noisy the establishment is.  Wow, this isn't just a little chatty noisy but if I had earmuffs right now I'd love to put them on and forgo any further conversation.  Commissary, please look into some sound reducing techniques and save the ambiance!

Meat & Eggs $19
Knowing that the Commissary has some Lebanese links, I decided I needed to try the Meat and Eggs. With an all day breakfast menu offered, it was great to turn up at 1pm and be offered all things eggs, as weekends were made for breakfast all day!  But don't fret if eggs in the afternoon aren't your thing, as they also offer a lunch menu.

The 'Meat and Eggs' is beef fillet and eggs scrambled together, pickled turnip, cucumber, labneh and za'arta toast.  I almost always select poached eggs, so scrambled and with the inclusion of sliced beef fillet was a tasty change.  The full of flavour spiced za'arta really takes your standard buttered sourdough toast to another tasty level.  Dipping the za'arta toast and the cucumber sticks in the creamy thick labneh was a refreshing break from the heaviness of the meat and eggs, and the pickled turnip adding a great tang to the plate.  This dish is almost a breakfast tasting plate, which was both delicious and interesting to eat with the many textures, flavours, and various elements that you could eat with both your hands and your knife and fork.  A great sharing dish... but when it's this good, why would you share?!

Smashed Avocado $14 & English Breakfast Tea
My lunch date today tried the ever popular Smashed Avocado.  This smashed avo with poached egg served on rye bread had a twist of beetroot hummus, which pleased my hungry guest.  Not only did the beetroot hummus provide an amazing pop of colour on the plate it had a wonderful depth of flavour both earthy and sweet.

The food at Commissary today was great.  We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we just wished we could turn down the volume of the place... maybe next time I would try sitting outside on the decking to see if the traffic isn't as deafening!
