Quick Chop! Crack Kitchen

Crack Kitchen - 13 Franklin Street, Adelaide SA 5000

Conveniently, Crack Kitchen has opened up very close to my workplace but for some reason has taken me too long to finally visit. I (Amanda) make arrangements to meet a couple of friends for a quick weekday lunch, mid crazy work schedule. I arrive and am excited for the front automatic doors to open for me, once an old bank, now a whole other minimalistic decor with a very clean feel.

We settle into the table we are assigned on entry (no bookings taken here). Seating is mostly located along one long white wall, making me feel slightly OCD nervous with the perfection of it all. The large windows along the wall do bring in some lovely natural light, which is much needed with the cold feeling from the concrete flooring.

The menu is an all day brunch menu, which consists mostly of breakfast egg type dishes. Luckily there are four lunch type dishes to choose from today, as poached eggs was not something I felt like at 1pm between work meetings.

They take their coffee seriously here, as there is a large section on the menu dedicated to explaining the types of milk, coffee beans, blends and methods they use. I make note that I will have to return for a morning takeaway coffee another time.

Fish $20
Today I select the 'Fish', which is pan-fried Atlantic salmon with noodles, black sesame, kimchi, coriander, soy and lime. Looking very pretty presented on a black plate, the long skinny piece of salmon had a delectable crispy skin and the most lovely moist medium cooked centre making this salmon a pleasure to eat. The noodle salad accompaniment was just as delicious with so much flavour with the spiciness and acidity of the kimchi, the fresh coriander and lime and crunch of the carrots.  The texture of the noodles were mixed with parts al-dente and tender and parts with a little crunch... not cooked enough, or slightly fried?  I'm not sure but either way I enjoyed the textural difference throughout.

Crack Counter
Overall I enjoyed my lunch at Crack Kitchen but there is just something about the ambiance that is lacking and doesn't give me that feeling to want to return often... too cold and clinical to bring a feel of comfy and homely maybe? Service a bit lack lustre and uninspiring? Either way I will return to give the ambiance another chance as my salmon was very good today... maybe on a weekend to try one of those poached egg brunch dishes and some coffee of course.
