Spaghetti Junction - Menu Tasting

Spaghetti Junction - City Cross Food Court - 32 Grenfell Street, Adelaide SA 5000

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were invited to the recently opened Spaghetti Junction in the City Cross shopping centre for a menu tasting. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Spaghetti Junction.

Spaghetti Junction is located at the entrance of the City Cross food court and is lucky to have it's own private seating area overlooking the bustling lunchtime crowd on Grenfell Street. This makes for a great people watching spot and also a quieter place to catch up with friends over lunch rather than fighting for a vacant table in the general food court area.

Salt & Pepper Prawns & Chips $13.90

Salt & Pepper Calamari & Chips $12.90
Our favourites from the tasting today were the salt and pepper prawns and calamari, both tender and lightly coated in a finger licking good salt and pepper batter. Served with aioli and crinkle cut chips that were just as we like them... a little crispy on the outer with a fluffy inner. We would happily return for another plate of these.

SJ Special Pizza $13.90

Ham Pizza $13.90
Spaghetti Junction offers 4 pizzas on their menu. These include pepperoni, margherita, ham and the special. The toppings were plentiful and full of flavour including a nice rich tomato sauce base. We just wished they were on a pizza dough rather than the pita bread currently used. The pita is very thin and produced a very crisp edge that made the pizza hard to eat and lost some of the Italian authenticity a traditional dough would bring.

Selection of Pastas
Our favourite pasta of the day was the 'Bacon with Bite' consisting of pan fried bacon and onion in garlic, basil and chilli tomato sauce. Served with spaghetti (of course!) it lived up to it's name with a good bite from the chilli.

The 'Fish Out of Water' pasta consisting of prawns, calamari and cockles in a light white wine cream sauce finished with spinach was unfortunatley lacking flavour today and the cream based sauce was a little on the 'gluggy' side. On the plus side, the seafood was well cooked providing a tender sweetness to the pasta.

Yes, I'm a Vego Salad $10.90
The 'Yes I'm A Vego' salad was a great combination of carrot, fennel, strawberry, pine nuts, baby spinach and artichoke with a ginger lemon dressing. We enjoyed this interesting salad with bursts of sweetness, acidity and bitter elements, which made a lovely accompaniment to the carb loading feast of pasta and pizza!

Coffee in Chocolate Dipped Waffle Cones

Interior Signage
If you are after a quick Italian inspired lunch in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, then stop in and give Spaghetti Junction a go, if only for a salt and pepper calamari fix and the coffee served in a chocolate dipped waffle cone for a coffee with a twist!
