Tasting Australia 2017 - Rundle Mall's Urban Pantry & Cellar Door

Tasting Australia 2017 - Urban Pantry, Cellar Door & Grazing Trail in Rundle Mall

The 2017 Tasting Australia culinary festival is here and we at On The Chopping Board (OTCB) cannot be more excited if we tried! This 8 day festival located in Adelaide and surrounding regions, commences 30 April, and is led by three highly respected leaders in the industry, Maggie Beer, Simon Bryant and Jock Zonfrillo.

The Urban Pantry & Cellar Door in Rundle Mall
With an extensive program of events, it may be difficult to decide where to begin your indulgence in this renowned foodie festival... enter OTCB to the rescue!  We think a great place to start is this years newest offering, the Urban Pantry and Cellar Door located in Rundle Mall.  OTCB were lucky to be invited to the launch of the Urban Pantry and Cellar Door, so we have all the tasty details you need to know to make the most of this free pop up event!

The Urban Pantry
Lots of stunning SA produce for tasting!
At the Urban Pantry, you can sample a range of delicious South Australian (SA) produce thanks to 20 local businesses involved.  At the launch we had the opportunity to preview the sampling of the pantry stockists, with some of our favourites being the tasty smallgoods from Barossa Fine Foods, amazing cheeses from Udder Delights and a variety of flavoured grain crackers from Levodo.  This was our first time trying these grain thin crackers and wow, they will definitely be making it onto our next grazing platter - such great flavour and crunch!

Haigh's Chocolates, Kangaroo Island Living Honey & Beerenberg Lemon & Lime Curd Tastings
Along with other pantry stockists such as Haigh's Chocolates, Kangaroo Island Living Honey, Maggie Beer and Charlesworth Nuts to name a few, it will be hard to drag yourself away from the Urban Pantry and all the flavourful samples for tasting!

"Meet the Producers" Tasting Cart
"Meet the Producers" - Udder Delights at the Tasting Cart on Friday 5th May
And if that isn't enough, there is also a 'Meet the Producers' tasting cart, where the Urban Pantry is hosting daily guest speakers and producers to share trade secrets, fun foodie facts and expert advice to guide you through the products featured. To plan which speakers and producers you don't want to miss out on seeing, check out the 'Meet the Producers' schedule.  We know we will be racing to Rundle Mall in our lunch break to watch the live Questions and Answers (Q&A) session with one of our favourite chef's, Paul Baker from the Botanical Gardens Restaurant.

The Cellar Door
Within the Urban Pantry is the Cellar Door presented by The Propaganda Club.  Here you have access to free tastings of a variety of SA boutique beers, wines and spirits.  The Propaganda Club will also have their own pre-made barrel aged cocktail range for tasting including their delectable Honeycomb Vodka, which we are already well acquainted with and recommend a tasting of this house made speciality.  Cheers!

Similar to the 'Meet the Producers', the Cellar Door will host 'Meet the Makers' where a different beverage maker is featured daily to share their expert advice on their products.  With talented "makers" like Penfolds, Ounce Gin and Applewood Distillery to name only a few, you may not want to miss a session, so start blocking out your calendar now! (Meet the Makers schedule)

Grab your Grazing Trail bag and begin the foodie adventure!
Last but not least, The Grazing Trail.  This foodie loving 10 stop trail is only in action from Friday 5 May until Sunday 7 May and sounds like the perfect way to leisurely explore Rundle Mall and all it's hidden treats.  We think this grazing trail is great to do on your own or with friends or even the whole family... the kids will love this interactive activity!  The best part is that it is free and with good quality tastings at each stop and a pre-packed gift bag of goodies when you begin your journey, how can you go wrong.

Monday's Coffee at the Urban Pantry & also part of the Grazing Trail
The fantastic local businesses involved in the grazing trail include Just Bliss Chocolates, Monday's Coffee Store, Lindes Lane, Charlesworth Nuts, T Bar, Haigh's Chocolates, Foods for Life, Bar 9, The Propaganda Club and Two Bit Villians.  This sounds like one mouth-watering, self-guided walking trail to us!  Check out the Grazing Trail Map and let your tastebuds get further accquainted.

The Urban Pantry
We hope this introduction to the Rundle Mall Urban Pantry, Cellar Door and Grazing Trail has stirred up those foodie tastebuds in you and we hope to see you there soaking up the atmosphere, inhaling all the wonderful aromas and devouring all things food and drink.  We are definitely lucky to have the Tasting Australia festival based here in Adelaide and we are even more lucky to be surrounded with so much amazing SA produce. Now lets eat!
