Mr and Mrs P's website says "...the meals you don't want to end."

And you know what, that is exactly right for the majority of our dishes - we did not want these meals to end. Not only did we not want the meals to end, we didn't want to leave. On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was invited to the petite restaurant on a Friday night when there was also an acoustic performance by a musician. Behind the bar, there was a huge selection of alcohol with a ladder for the waiters to reach the top. Even though the restaurant initially feels small with only a few bar tables to the right when you enter, if you walk upstairs there is more seating as well as an outside seating area.

The staff were very attentive, which just makes the night even better, especially when they suggest what you should order. That is something I (Christina) strongly suggest when eating out, go with what the waiter or waitress recommends because they have tasted everything and know what comes back to the kitchen on their customer's plate.

The menu is designed to share with a range of snacks, cold meats, cheese and main course dishes.

'Di San Daniele Prosciutto 24 months' - $18 and 'Rangers Valley Bresaola' - $14

To start we shared a cold meats plate, which came with mini pickles, large capers, pickled carrots and crunchy bread. I had never tried bresaola before and enjoyed the nice salty flavour. It was a great start to the evening.

'Soft Shell Crab' - $11

To begin our entrees we had 'Soft Shell Crab' with yuzu mayo, seeds and togarashi. The mayo was great, it was creamy and had a beautiful tart flavour thanks to the yuzu. Unfortunately, I didn't love the crab, as it lacked seasoning and the sweet crab flavour I was looking for to balance out the other elements.

Then came the two best meals. I absolutely loved these meals. They were both perfectly cooked with stunning flavours. These were the dishes we didn't want to end (and the dessert but I'll get to that). I guess you probably want to know what they were...

'Robbins Island Wagyu Beef' - $31

First, let's talk about the 'Robbins Island Wagyu Beef' with buttered risoni and green goddess dressing. The beef just melted in our mouths. I mean just LOOK at how perfect that beef is cooked. The flavours worked perfectly together and writing about it just makes me want to eat it again.

'Spicy Prawn Tacos' - $18

Next, we had the 'Spicy Prawn Tacos' with sriracha, iceberg lettuce and yuzu seeds. I loved these, especially the textures. There was a great crunch to the lettuce and also the yuzu seeds. I would have preferred them to be in an actual taco though rather than the lettuce.

'Spicy Tuna' - $25

Second, I bring you the most perfect tuna I have ever had. Yes, I am using the word perfect. The 'Spicy Tuna' with sushi rice and unagi sauce was so perfectly cooked I could have eaten five plates to myself. It was moist, tender and the sauces created a well-balanced dish with the texture of rice bringing in a crunch.

'Chocolate Cake' - $14

Last but definitely not least the 'Chocolate Cake' with roasted white chocolate, hazelnut and lychee. Now that I write the full description out I don't remember tasting lychee, which is great because I don't like it. This cake was more than just your average chocolate cake, it was a performance. Ambiance: 4/5 - Smart casual, maybe a little noisy for some.
Service: 5/5 - Friendly staff with table service.
Food: 8/10 - Great tasty food - serving sizes could be larger.

In total OTCB gives Mr and Mrs P 17/20 chops On The Chopping Board.

Things to know:

- For those who aren't from Melbourne, the suburb of Brighton is about 25 minutes from the city.

- We recommend booking on a weekend as the bar can get busy especially when there is a wicked acoustic musician playing. Book online here.

- Remember the dishes are designed to be shared so avoid bringing that one friend who likes to order for themselves and makes it hard to split the bill.

- Open every day except for Mondays from 4 pm.
