MELBOURNE! Laikon Delicatessen: Not Your Average Deli

Now this is a salumi plate!
It feels like salumi boards, grazing platters and cheese plates have become all the rage lately. Obviously, we've been enjoying them as an appetiser for years however with the rise of social media they're getting more attractive and therefore, more on trend. When looking for the perfect products to lay on your wooden chopping board I (Christina) suggest Laikon Delicatessen and here is proof.

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) were invited to check out the family run deli, which has been a staple on Bridge Road since 1976. The deli has recently expanded with a brand new authentic European cafe.

Our beautiful window table!

Look at all that cheese!

We started with the 'Make You Own - Salumi Plate' you can choose to have three or five items from the three lists; salumi, formaggio and verdure.

We chose the 'Prosciutto de Parma 12 months', 'Wagu bresaola', 'Fromage D'Affinois', 'Pickled Greek peppers' and 'Olive, feta and chilli dip'. We were so impressed, the prosciutto was the perfect amount of salty and the fromage d'affinois was so creamy. The bread was unlimited so we never ran out of carbs, seriously that has got to be the worst thing when it comes to a cheese/salumi board, not enough bread.

Salumi Plate - 5 for $38
For second course we chose from the specials board, a home made lasagne and a Greek salad. Lasagne isn't something I order out because my Nonna is the queen of lasagne. However, I wanted to try the Greek style and I was not disappointed.

Homemade lasagne - $17

After your meal it will be very difficult to leave the deli without taking something home. Just take a look at what they have on offer.

A container of each please!
The perfect lunch sandwich!
Sauce to make your own lasagne at home!

Ok, we're hungry all over again!
The cafe also has a great breakfast menu on offer until 12pm. How do these sound, 'Baklava porridge, wild Greek honey, apple and rhubarb compote' and 'Smashed peas, Pecorino Romano, poached eggs and seeds on sourdough'.

Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely be heading back to purchase goodies for my next night hosting guests or just a Saturday night in watching a movie because I need that fromage d'affinois in my life again.
