Coal, Cellar & Grill - Winter Express Lunch

Coal, Cellar & Grill - Adelaide Hilton, 233 Victoria Square, ADELAIDE SA 5000

Most of the On The Chopping Board (OTCB) team work in the Adelaide CBD, so we are always looking for a mix of quick takeaway options, as well as lovely dine in options for our lunch.  Coal Cellar and Grill at the Hilton Adelaide ticks off the lovely and quick dine in criteria with their express lunch offering.  This is not the first time we have experienced the express lunch offering (see our previous express lunch visit in June 2016) as it's easy to return to a stunning location providing a prompt, quality and value for money food and beverage package.

So what does the 'Express Lunch' entail exactly?  Well for $25 you can choose from a selection of main course dishes, select a glass of house wine, beer or soft drink and receive a coffee.  Sounds like a generous deal for the location to us, and to make it more enticing Coal, Cellar and Grill can get you fed and watered within the hour!

Lamb Sugo Pasta & a glass of Nebbiolo

Today I (Amanda) selected the wood smoked lamb sugo with L'Abruzzese cavatelli pasta, baby spinach, kalamata tapenade and grana padano for the main dish.  This dish was absolutely delicious and so warming and satisfying for a cold rainy day.  The cavatelli pasta, which is like an elongated shell was cooked to a perfect al dente producing a nice bite, pairing well with the tender and juicy pulled lamb sugo (sauce).  The subtle smokiness of the lamb balanced well with the saltiness of the olive tapenade and the slight sweetness of the baby spinach.  It was a generous serve that I wasn't sure I would get through but as it was so flavourful, before I knew it I had wiped the bowl clean!

To accompany the pasta dish I chose the Unico Zelo Exocarpos Nebbiolo red wine, which was a nice pick for lunch as it wasn't too heavy and exuded lovely cherry fruit, herbs and spices completing this winter lunch perfectly.

House made bread rolls

Mixed Marinated Olives

We were also treated to house made warm bread rolls and marinated mixed olives today as an extra bonus.  If you are interested in some starters or additional plates to share before or with the mains, these are a great choice.  The olives were moreish and how can you pass up freshly baked bread and butter!

The 'Express Lunch' has got our tick of approval and is a great excuse to catchup with friends in your next lunch break, or host a business meeting or for a quick but good quality lunch in sophisticated surroundings.  The 'Express Lunch' $25 deal is available Monday to Friday from 12:00pm until 2:30pm.  View the current menu and book a table online on the Coal, Cellar and Grill website.

Thanks to Coal, Cellar and Grill and Grays PR for inviting us to experience the express lunch menu.  All food and beverages were provided by Coal, Cellar and Grill.
