Mia Margarita - Launch Party

Mia Margarita - T2/330 Seaview Road, Henley Beach SA 5022

As another grey Adelaide winter sets in, it’s quite easy to forget about the western beaches where we spent most of our summer. But as the sun sets on warmer times a neon glow has started to light the night at Henley Beach.

The interior at Mia Margarita glows with a modern, tropical aesthetic, the white-washed walls providing a blank canvas for a rainbow of fluorescent light to radiate against. A hot pink bar wraps around the edge of the dance floor, starting from the DJ deck to extend into a long expanse of bar covered in colourful cocktails.

Mia Margarita Bar & Watermelon Margarita

The drinks menu is diverse, with everything from Big Shed Brewing Co’s Californicator to pina coladas served in young coconuts. We start our evening with some watermelon margaritas. Their chilled fruity sweetness was well-balanced and still allowed the flavour of the tequila to take centre stage.

Mango Mojito $19

Moving upstairs with a mango mojito in hand, we found multi-coloured booths nestled into high arched pockets of a surprisingly spacious dining area. Wide windows offer a view out over the street and a hip-shaking playlist thrums out of the speakers.

Flathead Tostadas

Though Mia Margarita does have an expansive menu, tonight we were more in the mood for a dance and chose to nibble on some of the smaller ‘platos’ dishes. The crispy beer-battered flathead tostadas had a citric vibrancy thanks to a light sprinkling of charred corn salsa and squirt of citrus mayo and the oysters salty delicacy was amped up under a topping of tequila lime salsa.

Big Shed Brewing Co Californicator & Frozen Espresso Martini

I (Dani) found that the frozen espresso martini was refreshing but underwhelming in presentation and lacked that good coffee hit we were looking for but the aforementioned Californicator suited the menu and mood - the hoppy West Coast IPA was deliciously refreshing with citrus, apricot and pine flavours.

Though Henley Beach has definitely boomed in recent years, it seems that there has been more of a focus on restaurants and cafes intended to be enjoyed during the day and early evening. Mia Margarita has now brought a lively option to the area for those who are looking for a chance to party on into the night.

Thanks to Girl About Town for inviting us to celebrate the launch of Mia Margarita. We look forward to returning soon to try more from the menu.

Mia Margarita is open Tuesday to Thursday from 5:30pm until late and Friday to Sunday 12pm until late.
