Bierhouse Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

Bierhouse Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, Lobethal, Adelaide, Beer, Craft Beer

Beer:  Bierhouse Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
Alcohol/Volume: 5.8%
Brewer: Lobethal bierhouse - Lobethal SA -

How was the palate prepared? No beer beforehand – clean palate

First sip mental image: Irish band

Colour: Thick black with a dark brown tinge. Cant see through the beer  - it’s a dense one.

How did it taste? The first few sips are all sweet smoke with a nice English-styled hopped bitter punch at the back of the palate. After a few sips, the beer almost tastes peaty like a good Scottish whiskey (might have a laphroig later!). There are gentle bitter dark chocolate and coffee overtones but they are not overpowering.  A nice balanced beer with a medium body.

Head poured very nicely with small light brown bubbles that almost graded from brown to white like a freshly poured latte.

Under what circumstances would I drink a six pack?
Irish pub, warm inside, cold outside, weak sun through the window, band in background, lazy afternoon…6 pack of this beer gone!

Suggested accompanying food?
Irish stew
