Sierra Nevada - Hop Hunter IPA

Sierra Nevada - Hop Hunter IPA

Beer:  Hop Hunter IPA
Alcohol/Volume: 6.2%
Brewer: Sierra Nevada -

How was the palate prepared? Salt and pepper calamari

First sip mental image: Fresh green fields, sunshine, flowers…

Colour: Golden orange in colour with no sediment.

How did it taste?
The nose is immediately hit with hops as you raise this beer to your lips. This beer has serious aroma. We assume that this is related to the fact that Sierra Nevada is very proud about it’s unique dry hopping and ‘torpedoing’ techniques that increase the hop oil in it’s beers.  With this particular beer they are experimenting with steam distilling wet hops from the field to infuse the hop essence in the Hop Hunter.

The taste all starts with citrusy hops and the rolls into bitter sweetness. This beer is a considerable 60 IBU. This beer has a seriously nice balance of hops and bitterness. It packs a punch but is very easy to drink.

Medium bodied mouthfeel with a thin white head. The pour needed a little distance to the glass to the get the head to froth up.

Suggested accompanying food?
Salted kettle chips.

Under what circumstances would I drink a six pack?
This is a beer that on paper shouldn’t be a six pack beer (with 60 IBUs!) however they have got an awesome balance happening that makes it very easy to drink.  Give me a lazy Saturday arvo, chores are done, smoker chugging away with a choice piece of brisket and six of these might just disappear.
